Statement Closed after initial enquiries Street furniture and lighting 27-Feb-2024

Summary: We will not investigate Mr X’s complaint about broken bus stop doors at the bus station. This is because an investigation by this office could not add to the response the Council has already provided via its own investigation.

  • East Sussex County Council (23 017 104)

Statement Closed after initial enquiries Highway repair and maintenance 26-Feb-2024

  • Manchester City Council (23 008 382)

Statement Upheld Parking and other penalties 26-Feb-2024

Summary: Ms X said the Council wrongly stopped her parking permits. Ms X said this was unfair for age and health reasons and caused distress. We found fault in how the Council reached its decision to stop renewing Ms X’s parking permits under a traffic regulation order. The Council agreed to apologise to Ms X for the distress caused and to issue a permit pending its review of the order.

  • Birmingham City Council (23 008 970)

Statement Not upheld Parking and other penalties 26-Feb-2024

Summary: Miss D complained the Council did not allow her to pay a Penalty Charge Notice in instalments and this has led to enforcement action and an increased debt. The Ombudsman has not found fault with the actions of the Council.

  • Trafford Council (23 015 974)

Statement Closed after initial enquiries Other 24-Feb-2024

Summary: We will not investigate this complaint about a claim of flooding resulting from blocked highway drainage. It is reasonable for Mr X to make a claim against the Council’s insurance and seek a remedy in the court if no liability is accepted.

  • Kirklees Metropolitan Borough Council (23 016 038)

Statement Closed after initial enquiries Traffic management 23-Feb-2024

Summary: We will not investigate this complaint about the Council’s rejection of a request for parking restrictions on the road where Miss X lives. There is insufficient evidence of fault which would warrant an investigation.

  • Derbyshire County Council (23 017 111)

Statement Closed after initial enquiries Parking and other penalties 23-Feb-2024

Summary: We will not investigate this complaint about Penalty Charge Notices because Mr Y has already used his right to appeal to the London Tribunals.
