The LGSCO is a member of the Ombudsman Association (OA), a professional association for UK and other ombudsman schemes. All members of the Association must meet its criteria of independence, fairness, effectiveness, openness, transparency, and accountability. They must also publish their service standards and report against them.

The Ombudsman Association regularly carries out checks on whether members comply with these criteria and with its principles of good governance. It carried out a thorough review of the LGSCO’s work in 2024.

The OA confirmed revalidation of the LGSCO as a member on 5 June 2024.
