Statement Closed after initial enquiries Refuse and recycling 28-Jan-2025

Summary: Ms X complained the Council failed to secure the speech and language therapy in her child, W’s, Education, Health and Care Plan. The Council was not at fault. However, it was at fault for failing to respond to Ms X’s complaints properly. This caused Ms X avoidable frustration, for which the Council should apologise and pay her £100.

  • Sefton Metropolitan Borough Council (23 018 950)

Statement Upheld Special educational needs 27-Jan-2025

Summary: Mrs U complains on behalf of her daughter (Miss X). They complain about the Council’s decision, at short notice, to change the further education college named on Miss X’s Education, Health and Care Plan without involving her. They also complain the new college was not delivering parts of Miss X’s Education, Health and Care Plan. The Council delayed reviewing the Plan and carrying out a social care assessment. We uphold the complaint. The Council has agreed to our recommendations.

Statement Closed after initial enquiries Trees 27-Jan-2025

  • London Borough of Lambeth (24 001 697)

    Statement Upheld Homelessness 27-Jan-2025

Summary: Ms X complains the Council delayed in providing interim accommodation when she became homeless, then did not properly consider the suitability of accommodation it provided. There was fault by the Council which caused Ms X and her children the avoidable distress of eviction, and then to remain in unsuitable accommodation once rehoused. The Council agreed to apologise and pay a financial remedy. We did not recommend actions for the Council to address the failings in its homeless service. It has already recently updated us on progress against its Housing Needs Service Improvement Plan following fault identified in other cases.

  • High Peak Borough Council (24 002 008)

    Statement Upheld Council tax 27-Jan-2025

Summary: We found fault on Mrs S’s complaint made on behalf of her son, about the Council failing to communicate with her about his council tax when aware he was a vulnerable adult. This caused stress as it issued a summons. It failed to act under its recovery policy or on his request. The agreed action remedies the injustice caused.
